How did I get started running and could you do it, yes you could.

Am I stiff from last nights run no not really, my body knows it did 8 miles yesterday and my muscles ache a bit but on the whole I am fine and very pleased with myself, could I go out again to day yes I could.

I had a quick look on run keeper last night and since I started training this year I have had 22 outings, run 81 miles and burnt off 8,896 calories so if I was eating healthy I would have easily lost the last stone I need to shift.

I thought it might be nice to give you an overview on how I started running as I am no athlete and I am over 50 so anyone can do it.

In 2009 I wanted to take part in the "race for life" and my daughter said she would come with me but only if she could run it. I have never been good at sport, not even as a child, I used to avoid sports days at school so after lots of laughting she convinces me that I could run this 5k and the training began. I had to wear a couple of very tight tops to stop everything from bouncing shall we say and then a t shirt as I was 13 stone and a little over 5 foot. The first time I managed to run around the local  country park without stopping I looked like a lobster and my running pave was only a fast walking pace but the feeling at the end of that outing was amazing. I did run the 5k and the following year I ran two 10k's with relative ease.

I am no longer 13 stone and I am a lot fitter than I used to be. I run for my benefit, I like being outdoors and I need to keep fit. The amount of people who have said to me over the years "No I can't run" well actually you could if you wanted to. I am no athlete and I am never going to win a marathon but it is very rewarding taking part and well worth the effort of giving it a go.
